Artist Statement My name is Cocoa Rae David. I am a 24 year college student striving for a career in photographic imaging. I have an associates degree in Liberal Arts. I am currently studying photographic imaging at the Art Institute of Charleston, SC. I have been taking photographs and portraits professional for a few years, but I've been taking pictures at the age of 12. I started taking portraits, along with my side business, in September 2012. I take so much pride and passion in every photo I take. I am willing to travel anywhere for anyone who needs photos or portraits taken for any occasion.
I've worked with lots of different people within the Charleston area, especially big household names such as The Cocktail Bandits, Joseph McGill and Elliot Carlyle. I usually work with local upcoming artists. In the past year, I have also taken photos in different events and places, such as Charleston Fashion week, Afro Punk Fest in Brooklyn NY, The Slave Dwelling Project and one of the BLM Rallies.
My style of Photography is rooted in portraiture and fashion. I hope to pursue a career within these realms. Most of my artwork focuses on young black adults and artists. In this age, I feel and believe that art is going to change the outlook of society, especially with this generation. I love working with people who can be creative with me. I really love having artists be able to express who they are in each portraits. Each portrait tells a story about who they are in life. I really admire creativity, and this one of a few ways to do it. There is no such thing as a silly or dumb idea. I am open to many ideas. Of course, I want my photographs to stand out, doesn't every artist?
Taking portraits of people is my favorite things to do. I feel that God has put this talent and skill in me in order to fulfill his plan. I will not waste such a powerful, useful and beautiful talent such as this. Photography is the best way for me to not only praise the most high, but also to express who I really am in this world. This website is to showcase how far and fast my craft is growing each day. I want my future clients and bosses to see how much my work has improved over the years.
I am truly blessed and thankful for my family, for their love and support since the beginning. I am thankful for my friends, for their help, cooperation, themselves as models and many more. But I am really blessed and thankful for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, because in him, all things are possible!
